A Short Story. About Nothing. No Really

Once upon a time there was a Shepherd. And in his care he had all sorts of sheep, big ones, small ones, tall ones, and short ones. Now this Shepherd wanted to be a really good shepherd and so he went to all sorts of shepherd conventions and shepherd training courses and listened to all sorts of shepherd tapes. Then one day he realized that he was a shepherd and that meant that the sheep followed him. But he was tired and so it didn’t occur to him that being a shepherd meant he also had to lead.

Now this shepherd did one thing, he would walk to the same field everyday, and then walk back. And the sheep would follow him. He thought it was easy, and it was because all the sheep knew where they were going. Then one day he realized one thing. Which is sad really, he realized the field the sheep always went to only had weeds in it and sheep should eat grass. Now the sad part is that he didn’t realize one other thing, he was a shepherd, which meant that he had to lead, even sheep that wouldn’t want to go to a different pasture. But instead he decided it would be easier to send in his resignation and find a new herd of sheep, one’s that were used to going to grass. It was easier you see, than he wouldn’t really have to lead at all. And so he used rhetoric and big words to mask his lack of leadership.

Now sheep are not always dumb and some sheep knew they were eating weeds and should be eating grass, and when they saw their shepherd leave they were sad but if he didn’t want to lead them to where the grass was they know he had to go, he was no leader.

The shepherd was confused. He knew he was right, but sometime knowledge leads to immaturity, and he thought that some sheep from his old flock would follow him. But because some of his former sheep knew more about leadership then he did they knew he should have lead them, not left and hoped some would follow. So the shepherd pestered them. And when that didn’t work he started a blog.
